Important Characters from The Kite Runner
Amir is a Pashtun and Sunni-Muslim. He is most definitely the protagonist in the story. Amir has inconsistent feelings towards his father, Baba, and his play mate, Hassan. He is an example of an insecure character and feels envy because he feels as though his father treats Hassan more like son than he does him.
Baba is the father of Amir and is considered a leader in the Kabul community. Baba and his son, Amir, never developed a loving father son relationship. Both of their personalities are very different. Amir is always doing things for other people while Baba is a man who makes and follows his own rules.
Hassan is a Hazara and Shi'a Muslim. He says he is best friends with Amir but Amir sees him more as a play mate. He is also Ali's son. Along with being Ali's son, he is also considered "the perfect character" because even though his "master" betrays him, Hassan continues to lie for him.
Rahim Khan is like a father figure towards Amir. He encourages and influences Amir's writing as well. Rahim is also Baba's business partner and best friend. All in all, Rahim is an influence in both Amir's life and Baba's life.

The Kite Runner vs A Thousand Splendid Suns
The Kite Runner is about a young immature boy, Amir, who depends on his play mate, Hassan, to lie and protect him. Later in life, Amir who left behind everyone he loves and cares about in Afghanistan, has to go back and find Hassan's son. A Thousand Splendid Suns is about two completely different girls who in the beginning do not like each other but later have to put aside their differences and come together to survive.
Both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns show many similarities. For example, both books are about people in Afghanistan persevering through hardships. There also written by the same author: Khaled Hosseini. Personally, out of the two novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns was my favorite. In the very beginning, it jumped straight into the story and kept going strong till the end. Me, not being much of a reader, could not put it down. Out of these two novels by Khaled Hosseini, I definitely recommend A thousand Splendid Suns!

Quotations Explained
“A boy who won’t stand up for himself becomes a man who can’t stand up to anything.”
This was one of my favorite quotes from the novel The Kite Runner. This quote is an excellent example of how Baba views Amir. He views him as a coward. Furthermore, this quote showing how Baba feels towards Amir, it also shows how Amir feels towards his father, Baba. He is constantly trying to get his fathers approval and for some reason, like I said before, Baba and Amir have never been able to develop a loving father son relationship.

Quotations Explained (continued)
Amir constantly trying to get his fathers approval relates to Piggy in Lord of the Flies. Piggy is an outcast to everyone on the island just like Amir is to his father. Piggy tries and tries to be accepted but no likes him because of his outward appearance. Amir also tries to be accepted by his father by showing him his wonderful writing but his Baba wont listen. Piggy and Amir are both outsiders but in their own separate worlds. Because they are both outcasts, they are great examples of forced isolation.
